Help & answers
Questions, answered.
Prayer time accuracy, calculation methods, the Qibla, privacy and the app — the things people ask us most.
Getting started
What DeenDock is, what it costs, and what you need to use it.
Is DeenDock free?
Yes. Prayer times, Qibla, the Quran reader and every other web tool are free with no account. The Android app is free to download and supported by advertising — there is no subscription.
Do I need an account to use DeenDock?
No. The website works without signing in, and the Android app has no account requirement either. Your settings, bookmarks and logs live on your device.
Do I need the app to use the website?
No. Every utility on deendock.com works in the browser. The app adds what a browser cannot do well: Adhan notifications, offline Quran audio, a live AR Qibla compass and home-screen widgets.
Can I use the website offline?
The website needs a connection to load prayer times and Quran pages. In the app, Quran text, translations and audio you have downloaded stay available offline.
Prayer times
How the times are calculated and why they can differ from your mosque.
How accurate are the prayer times?
Times are calculated from your city’s coordinates using established solar models. They are accurate to the minute for the method you choose, but local mosques may follow a different method, rounding rule or high-latitude convention. For prayer, follow your local mosque where possible.
Which calculation method does DeenDock use?
By default we use the method most commonly followed in the city’s country — for example MWL in much of Europe, ISNA in North America, and Umm al-Qura in Saudi Arabia. You can switch methods and choose the Hanafi Asr calculation on any prayer times page.
Why do your times differ from my mosque by a few minutes?
Small differences come from the calculation method, how seconds are rounded, the Asr school, and whether the mosque applies a safety margin. A minute or two is normal; if the difference is larger, check that the city and method match what your mosque uses.
How do I change my city?
Open the prayer times page and choose “Change city”, or pick your city from the list. The site uses an approximate network location only to suggest a nearby city — you can always select another one, and the choice is remembered in your browser.
What time zone are the times shown in?
Times are shown in the city’s own time zone, labelled under the timetable. That means you can check a city you are travelling to before you arrive and see the times exactly as residents will.
Qibla direction
The bearing, the distance, and using a phone compass.
How is the Qibla direction calculated?
We calculate the great-circle bearing from the city’s coordinates to the Kaaba in Makkah. The result is the angle from true north: for example, 243° means you turn 243° clockwise from north.
Is the Qibla direction on the website accurate enough to pray?
The bearing is accurate for the city centre. If you are far from the centre, or in a large city, use the app’s live compass with your precise location. Small errors matter over long distances, so calibrate before you rely on a phone compass.
Why does my phone compass point in a different direction?
Phone compasses are affected by metal, magnets, car mounts and phone cases. Move away from interference, then calibrate by moving the phone in a figure-eight. The app’s live compass shows when the sensor needs calibration.
How is the distance to Makkah measured?
It is the great-circle distance in a straight line from the city to the Kaaba, not the distance by road or air travel.
Quran and duas
Reading, translations and listening.
Which Quran translation do you use?
The Quran reader shows the Arabic text alongside an English translation, with the translator credited on each surah page. Translations are not a substitute for the Arabic, and interpretive differences between translations are normal.
Can I listen to Quran recitations?
Yes. Surah pages list the recitation available for that surah, and the app supports verse-by-verse audio with downloads for offline listening.
Are the duas and hadith authentic?
Duas include their source, and the daily hadith names the collection, reference and narrator where available. If you spot an error or a missing reference, tell us and we will correct it.
Can I read the Quran in Arabic only?
Yes. You can hide the translation and read the Arabic on its own. Arabic text uses a dedicated Quran typeface with generous line height for comfortable reading.
Privacy and data
What is collected, what stays on your device, and how ads work.
Does the website track my location?
The site uses an approximate network location — from your IP address — only to suggest a nearby city. It is not stored, and you can change the city at any time. Precise device location is only requested by the app, with your permission.
What does the website store in my browser?
Your theme preference, chosen city and a few one-time install-banner flags are kept in local storage so the site works the way you left it. There is no account and no advertising cookie on the website.
Does the app collect personal data?
Your location is used to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. The app uses Google AdMob for advertising and Firebase for crash diagnostics; your bookmarks and worship history are stored locally on your device. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
Do you sell my data?
No. We do not sell personal data. Advertising is served through Google AdMob, which may use a device advertising identifier as described in its own policy.
The app
Platforms, notifications and installing DeenDock.
Is DeenDock available on iPhone?
Not yet. DeenDock is live on Android through Google Play. An iOS version is in development; this page will be updated when the App Store listing is available.
How do Adhan notifications work?
After installing, open Settings → Notifications in the app and allow alerts. You can choose a sound for each prayer, add a reminder before the Adhan and set quiet hours. Notifications depend on your phone’s battery optimisation settings.
Which Android versions are supported?
DeenDock runs on Android 7.0 (API 24) and later. The current release is version 2.0.11.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email support@deendock.com with your phone model, Android version and a short description — or use the feedback form inside the app. Reviews on Google Play are read too, but email lets us ask follow-up questions.

If your question is not here, email us with the city, date and method you are using — that usually makes the answer quick.
